Meet Emma and her 13-month-old daughter, Dahlia

Emma believes that breastfeeding is for all mams who are able to and want to.

“It’s such a lovely, bonding experience. It is just you and your baby. I’d say to any mum to give it a go – but you do you. YOU know best.”

Emma likes the easiness and convenience of breastfeeding, “It sorts a lot of problems, if Dahlia can’t sleep – a feed sends her off. If she falls and starts crying – it sorts it. It kind of deals with everything. Also, it doesn’t cost anything and it’s always right there!”

Emma’s top tip

Get support. Emma joined breastfeeding groups at Middlesbrough’s Family Hubs. She also joined a Facebook group, Breast Buddies – Teesside Breastfeeding Support. “There’s always someone there at all hours and they’ve often gone through exactly the same experiences as you and you never feel alone. Get support, take advice – it makes a big difference.”
