“Put your phone away and give your child your time to talk together.”
This is the strong message which Middlesbrough mum Sumaira would give to other parents after taking part in the Let’s Talk workshops at her local Family Hub.
The Let’s Talk programme gives parents practical ideas and tips to help their child’s language and speech. Each session is delivered by an expert Early Years and Family Hubs staff member.
Sumaira took part in the sessions to support her young son, Ebaad’s speech. Reflecting on the benefits of Let’s Talk, she said: “At first, I thought the sessions wouldn’t help, and that Ebaad would just talk in his own time, but I have found that the more I do with him, the more it helps him.
“Ebaad’s behaviour is much better because we are having regular family time playing together.
“Go ahead and give it a try – don’t think that it won’t work because it will!”
Parents of eligible two-year-olds can take part in the Let’s Talk programme.
