Theatre Hullabaloo is thrilled to bring its Let’s Play programme and a Yeti-themed week of activities to Hemlington Family Hub this winter, all thanks to their Place to Play initiative.
The Place to Play programme is part of a larger effort to provide high quality, free, creative play experiences to families in Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland. It is commissioned by Borderlands Creative People & Places and funded by Arts Council England.
Let’s Play is a ‘play on prescription’ programme for parents and carers with their children, featuring music, movement, and free play. Originally developed in response to increasing loneliness and post-natal depression during the pandemic, Let’s Play has since proven to be a highly beneficial activity for young families, especially those where children might be experiencing developmental delays.
Ongoing research from Theatre Hullabaloo research fellow, Paige E Davis, continues to show the significant impact of creative play on early childhood development and family wellbeing.
A former participant of Let’s Play noted, “We really enjoyed the sessions and looked forward to them each week. It’s the first playgroup I’ve been to so it really gave me the confidence to attend others and it’s given me plenty to do with my child at home and to keep them entertained.”
In addition to Let’s Play, Theatre Hullabaloo is bringing back a Yeti-themed week for February Half-Term. After a successful debut in Park End in December, Yeti Week will offer a series of fun-filled activities for children aged 0-8 and their families to enjoy. The week will conclude with Yeti Hunt, a lively song and dance session for children aged 2 and over.
Theatre Hullabaloo is excited to continue working alongside Middlesbrough Council, local charities, and families in 2025 to bring more creative play opportunities to the region, culminating in their next Creative Play Installation later this year.
