Being a parent isn’t always easy. It can be stressful and isolating and you can feel like you don’t know where to go for help. Sherish, a Middlesbrough mum who was struggling with her young son’s behaviour, got help from the Family Hubs’ Early Years workshops and has thanked them for changing her family’s lives for the better.
Her little boy would cry for no reason, shout, hit and kick his mum and his siblings, making home life difficult and stressful for the whole family. The workshops delivered by Amanda at her local family hub gave Sherish practical ways to deal with her child’s behaviour.
She says “I realised that I needed to try to be calmer and try to avoid shouting so much. I learned how to use things like choices and consequences, praise and how to play more with my children. I am much calmer and my children are calmer too. I feel I have more patience than I did before, and I feel like I have more time for my children.”
The practical support from the workshops has helped the whole family to become closer and less divided, changing all their lives for the better. Her advice to other parents is “Take the time to do it, you won’t make changes straight away but the more you attend, the more you learn and when you put it into practice things will change. It is a game changer, and it has helped me, my husband and our children.”
The Early Years Workshops are for parents with children under the age of five. Call the Family Hubs team on 01642 579120 to sign up.
